Eurofins GeneScan IP Control Programs
For those Clients who wish to have a control program that parallels the accepted international standards for Identity Preservation, Eurofins GeneScan has developed the Eurofins GeneScan General Standard. Initially designed as a basis for the implementation and evaluation of programs to control the presence of genetically modified material in food, feed and seed production, the Eurofins GeneScan General Standard is applicable to a wide variety of parameters such as allergens and pesticides. This guidebook, comparable in scope to international programs such as the BRC Technical Standard, is a catalogue of measures used as building blocks in individually tailored control programs in agreement with best management practices and relevant legislation worldwide.
Every supply chain is unique, and as a result the risk for contamination or loss of value along each specific supply chain must be individually defined. During introductory meetings between Eurofins GeneScan and the Client, the basic objectives of the program are discussed and defined. The scope of the program, that is, the breadth, depth and precision needed to meet the stated objectives, is outlined.
The scope of the program depends upon:
BREADTH:
How much information is needed?
Which parameters need to be monitored?
DEPTH:
How far back in the food chain?
PRECISION:
What degree of assurance for the data collected?
Based on the agreed upon scope, objectives and the assessed risks, an “Individual Standard” for the program is developed. The Individual Standard is the translation of the Eurofins GeneScan General Standard to the specifics of the Client’s situation. It includes plans for sampling and analysis and requirements for segregation and verification. All procedures and responsibilities as defined by the Individual Standard are documented by the Client in the program’s handbook.
